The Story

Bettina Proprietory Red is a beautifully layered and complex blend of Bordeaux varietals sourced from three of David Abreu’s own exceptional estate vineyards – Madrona, Thorevilos, and Lucia Howell Mountain. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, this powerhouse wine is made with the same attention to detail as the estate Cabernet Sauvignon and named after Bryant Family Vineyard President, Bettina Bryant.

Wine Information

The 2022 BETTINA lands at 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot, containing relatively more Franc than previous vintages. With fruit hailing from St. Helena and Howell Mountain (with a touch from Bryant Family Vineyard, about 5%), the grapes are co-fermented together in tank to build complexity from an early stage. Vintage 2022

The 2022 growing season brought 20 inches of rain, with bud break, bloom, and veraison following their traditional timing. The crop was well-balanced and uniform. Harvest commenced on September 5th, right before an early September wave of heat, with picking extending steadily until September 27th. Diligent grape sorting and gentle cap management were important in extracting

elegant tannin for this plush and finessed wine.

Written Notes

Graceful and multidimensional, the 2022 Bettina beautifully captures the elegance of this flagship proprietary blend. The bouquet unfolds with layers of wild blackberry, red currant, and ripe blueberry, intertwined with lavender, crushed herbs, espresso, and fine cedar. Seamless on the palate, it offers remarkable purity of fruit, beautifully refined tannins, and a vibrant backbone that brings lift and precision. Subtle notes of cocoa, graphite, and sweet spice emerge on the long, persistent finish, leaving an impression of finesse rather than power. A sophisticated wine with outstanding harmony and excellent cellaring potential.

The 2022 Bryant Family Bettina is a beautifully crafted Bordeaux-inspired blend that combines richness, finesse, and remarkable precision. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of black cherry, cassis, wild blackberry, and ripe plum, complemented by violet, graphite, cedar, dark cocoa, and exotic baking spices. As it evolves, subtle hints of lavender, tobacco leaf, and crushed stone add further complexity.

The palate is full-bodied and impeccably balanced, offering a silky texture supported by polished, fine-grained tanninsand vibrant acidity. Concentrated dark fruit is seamlessly interwoven with notes of espresso, licorice, and mineral freshness, leading to a long, elegant finish that lingers with floral and savory nuances. Sophisticated and harmonious, Bettina once again demonstrates the remarkable precision and elegance that define Bryant Family.

Vintage 2022 – Napa Valley

The 2022 growing season was defined by warm, dry conditions and a prolonged heatwave in early September. Careful vineyard management and meticulous harvest decisions were essential to preserve freshness and balance. The finest producers harvested at optimal ripeness before and after the hottest period, producing wines with concentrated fruit, refined tannins, and excellent structure. At Bryant Family, the vintage has yielded wines of remarkable purity, depth, and elegance, despite the challenges of the growing season.
