2021 Barossa Valley Vintage Report

50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2021 (RRP $80) – A similar method of winemaking as to the 2020, culminating in two years maturing in a mix of new and older French oak. The fruit is, again, from Marananga, Light’s Pass and Bethany.
The colour here is an opaque black/maroon. The nose has aromas of aniseed, florals, blackcurrants, chocolate and earth all swirling around. Leather, cloves and soy as well. This is rich, powerful and concentrated. There is good length through to sleek tannins. The palate sees notes of coffee beans and mocha emerging. A seriously good Barossa red, with ten to twenty years ahead of it. 95.
