Blankiet Estate Rive Droite: The Aristocratic Right Bank Soul of Yountville

Born from Claude and Katherine Blankiet’s profound reverence for Pomerol and Saint-Émilion, Blankiet Estate Rive Droite stands as one of the most compelling, serious, and aristocratically styled Merlot-dominant masterworks produced in the New World. Sourced from the clay-loam and volcanic parcels of Paradise Hills Vineyard’s western Yountville bench, the wine—typica...

Written Notes

A dazzling, Pomerol-inspired benchmark crafted from nearly 97% Merlot with 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Rive Droite captures the crystalline purity and extended hang-time of this cool, benchmark Napa Valley vintage. In the glass, it radiates a deep, vibrant garnet-purple, leaping forward with soaring aromas of fresh black cherries, wild raspberries, crushed peonies, and pipe tobacco, underlaid by cool graphite, cedar, and an intoxicating touch of fresh garrigue. On the palate, the wine balances vertical tension with opulent, velvety fruit density, guided by sculpted, powdery tannins and a razor-fine acid cut that prevents any heaviness. Winemaker Graeme MacDonald’s extended maceration imparts a striking dark chocolate and mineral edge to the mid-palate, culminating in a finish of extraordinary length, lift, and aristocratic poise.
