The Story

Blankiet's 'Bordeaux Medoc-blend' of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This wine is sheer power in a silk glove.

Paradise Hills Vineyard is located on the western foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains above Yountville in the cooler part of the Napa Valley. Grapes planted in this area take longer to mature on the vine allowing for riper tannins, darker pigmentation and deeply perfumed fruit. The vi...

Wine Information

Owner Claude Blankiet :, “Heat is always the enemy of wine. We experienced this 20 years ago, trying to dry farm our vineyard and during a heat spike in September, our grapes shriveled in three days. We started experimenting with shade cloth in 2004 and now we have 75,000 linear feet protecting the fruiting zone, in addition we use tiny water misters that lowers the temperature by 10 degrees around the clusters. We used both systems in 2022 – ...

Written Notes

A blend of 77.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.8% Merlot, 4.9% Cabernet Franc and 5.4% Petit Verdot. The 2022 was a heat year. The vines suffered from the heat stress as well as scroching sun. Blankiet and his team overcame with these obstacles with shading cloths and water misters on vineyards.

Dense garnet-purple colour. The nose is slightly reserved, but delivers cedary and cassis aromas with graphite pencil, black olives and spicy clove notes. Full-bodied palate shows density in dark fruit flavours and tight refined yet velvety tannic structure. The aromas from the nose follows through the taste. The tightly-knitted palate suggests that wine should be kept for few years in cellar still before it starts to bloom. Another solid Proprietary Red from Blankiet from a challenging vintage. At its peak in 2030-2040.
