The Story

The power and elegance of a great Pauillac. Daring, innovative and known for often being the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined the style of Lynch-Bages in the 1930's. The wine's distinctive character earns it its place amongst Pauillac's greatest. It combines structure, finesse and elegance. It is generous in its youth and develops more complex aromas with bottle age.

Written Notes

A 1985 Lynch Bages was our one stop in Bordeaux, and it was classic all the way, resting comfortably on a bed of cassis with some nut and pencil aromas. Its palate was softer, charming and tender – a typical, easy to drink 1985 Bordeaux (93).

Lynch Bages 5. Cru Classe Pauillac – more raw and more powerful, great complexity to start with but after 20 minutes in the glass this wine falls apart for some reason. 92p?

Garnet red colour with slightly violet hue presenting a still youthfull character. The nose is multilayered showing aroma of graphite, hints of discreet smokyness, ripe, red peppers, in the background hints of blackcurrants, plums and with some oxygenation a touch of coffee. On the palate an opulent treat with excellent depth and length, fine tannins and rich flavour in the finish. A wonderful wine with class.
