The Story

Cristal Rosé was first born a hundred years after the original Cristal, in 1974. It is an intriguing and particular prestige cuvée rosé, as it has the palest colour, yet a contrastingly fleshy, fruity, well-built palate of amazing freshness. Its secret is in the 60 per cent Pinot Noir from two hectares of Roederer’s own old-vine vineyards in Aÿ, Bonotte-Pierre-Robert and La Côte du Moulin, which are now cultivated according to biodynamic princ...

Vintage 2015

A wet winter and mild spring gave way to an exceptionally dry summer from mid-May onwards. Hot weather prevailed until mid-August, when the skies opened again. Rains gave way to fine, cool, yet sunny weather for the first two weeks of harvest, which commenced on August 29th. The 2015 vintage has a lot of common denominators with the 2003 vintage but the 2015s are showing a better balance of weight and freshness with their average potential alc...

Written Notes

A triumph of biodynamic viticulture and winemaking precision, this 2015 Cristal Rosé is a blend of Grand Cru Pinot Noir (from Aÿ) and Chardonnay (from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger), crafted via Roederer’s signature infusion technique (co-macerating Pinot Noir skins with Chardonnay juice) and aged for over six years on the lees.

The nose is radiant, ethereal, and deeply alluring, bursting with wild red berries, alpine strawberries, and blood orange zest, framed by subtle undertones of candied citrus, rose petals, warm brioche, and crushed chalk minerality. On the palate, the wine possesses broad, aristocratic weight wrapped in a micro-fine, lace-like mousse. The intense fruit concentration of the warm 2015 vintage fills the mid-palate with remarkable depth, yet the wine stays remarkably nimble and fresh thanks to a vibrant, mouthwatering vein of citrus acidity. It finishes with incredible, lingering precision, closing on a bone-dry, chalky-saline trail with subtle touches of pomegranate skin and toasted almond.
