1815年、ギヨーム・ロートンは、早々と、シャトー・ラフィット・ロートシルトに次のような賛辞を残しています。「3軒（のプルミエ・クリュ）の中でも、極上のエレガンスと繊細さ、そして精気を備えたワインである。メドックでも最も優美な場所に位置するブドウ畑に数えられる。」1855年、万国博覧会を機会に制定された、かの有名な格付け。シャトー・ラフィット・ロートシルトは、格付け第一級の認定を得ています。
