The Story

The 50 hectares of Léoville and 17 hectares of Langoa, planted in gravelly soil with a clay sub-soil, include large proportions of old vines in order to obtain the best possible quality. Dafür entschädigte uns der 1959 Leoville Barton um so mehr. Dies hier war die letzte Flasche eines Lots, dass ich vor 30 Jahren in Belgien gekauft hatte. Alle Flaschen besaßen ein Etikett mit 1955, aber einen Korken mit 1959, was eindeutig der richtige Jahrgang war. Rauchig die Nase mit schöner, dunkler Frucht, viel Minze und etwas Eukalyptus, Tabak, Leder, dunkle Schokolade, Zigarrenkiste und Kaffee, dazu sehr kräftig mit guter Struktur und sogar noch Frische zeigend. Dürfte sich sicher noch 10+ Jahre weiterentwickeln – WT97. Leoville Barton ist immer eine Bank, nicht nur, weil die Preise halbwegs vernünftig sind. Leoville Barton braucht in der Jugend oft länger, altert dafür sehr gut. Mein ältester Leoville Barton war vor 19 Jahren ein immer noch faszinierender und gut trinkbarer 1863er.
