The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

Written Notes

A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Dark garnet red colour with brick red hue. Distinct spiciness, Cuban tobacco, cedar wood, fine leather, roasted chestnuts, hint of vanilla, cardamom and dark chocolate in the background. On the palate very elegant and refined with excellent length. A wine with fine acidity and tannins with an almost sandy texture, great finesse and a complex flavour reminiscent of roasted chestnuts, candied cherries and prunes, tobacco leaf and hints of cardamom. Fine sweetness in the finish. A beautiful wine in a very traditional style with true class and a beauty patch.

Good looking normal size bottle, in an perfect condition and has by the neck level. Colour is ruby red, deep and full. On the nose it is open, wide, fresh, rich and refined. The taste is focused, silky, round, with silky tannins, full-bodied, with balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has perfumed, vanilla, truffles, tropical fruits, toasty, tobacco, blackberry, leather, honey and chocolate flavours. The finish is long, smooth, extensive and lingering. This wine is sophisticated, excellent and outstanding. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least 2h before tasting. Good value for money.
