The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

At the turn of the 19th century, the estate already had much of its current configuration, stretching over some 13 hectares, when it was sold to a lawyer named Isambert. He renamed the estate “L...

Wine Information

Vintage 2009 / After a complex start to the growth season due to persistent damp conditions, fine weather finally arrived to stay at the end of June. The summer was hot and dry, punctuated in July, August and September with periods of light rain that prevented any water stress from developing. Fairly high day time temperatures combined with fine cool nights favoured slow ripening.
The Merlot developed very full flavour, with levels of ripenes...

Written Notes

If you are a fan of L'Evangile and Pomerol, and of course, the disposable income, you cannot have enough of this magical elixir. This is bottled hedonism at its best. Opulent, expressive, aromatic, and sensuous, the wine offers layers of seductively-textured fruit, silky tannins, and a creamy, luxurious finish packed with truffles and layers of chocolate-coated plums and black cherries that seemingly do not want to quit. And this is just getting started, with its best days starting maybe5 years from now. Drink from 2023-2050.

A quite warm vintage with a high proportion of 95% Merlot and only 5% Cabernet Franc. The colour is dark purple red with garnet red hue and black core. Aromatic nose with a complex approach, ripe fruit reminiscent of sweet elderberries, black cherries and ripe plums. Very elegant spiciness in the background, fine roasting aroma, developing extremely well with some oxygen. On the palate freshness, elegance in combination with extraordinary power, lingering fruit and spices in the finish. A wine with class, complexity and length, relay impressing, with a great potential for future evolution.
