The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

At the turn of the 19th century, the estate already had much of its current configuration, stretching over some 13 hectares, when it was sold to a lawyer named Isambert. He renamed the estate “L...

Wine Information

Blossoming was early and uniform. We had beautiful weather in July, followed by a hot, dry August, and then a few welcome thunderstorms in early September. This weather made for a promising vintage. Written Notes

A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Dark garnet red colour with brick red hue. Distinct spiciness, Cuban tobacco, cedar wood, fine leather, roasted chestnuts, hint of vanilla, cardamom and dark chocolate in the background. On the palate very elegant and refined with excellent length. A wine with fine acidity and tannins with an almost sandy texture, great finesse and a complex flavour reminiscent of roasted chestnuts, candied cherries and prunes, tobacco leaf and hints of cardamom. Fine sweetness in the finish. A beautiful wine in a very traditional style with true class and a beauty patch.

Ruby, ruby rim, sweet plums, vanilla, oak. Fresh acidity, leaner body, slightly rough texture, good length. Then coming back to it later on, way more elegant, more together, roughness has disappeared, longer. 92
