The Story

Palmer and its Alter Ego are two nuanced expressions of the Château Palmer terroir, two interpretations of the variations offered by the climatic conditions of the vintage. These variations can be likened, in music, to symphonic pieces and their jazz adaptations, in the visual arts, to a classic painting and a contemporary rendering of the same subject, and, in literature, to an epic narrative in alexandrine verse and a prose poem.

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Written Notes

Deep, dark ruby red colour. Intense nose with dark chocolate and ripe blackcurrants with touch of violets. Medium-bodied, vivid palate shows lovely vibrancy with acidity and minerality. The oak gives lovely nice spicy backbone with very supple tannins. Super refined wine with great harmony. Drinking well already but will keep for a decade easily. Decant for 2 hours and serve at 17-18°C. Superb match with grilled venison fillet cranberries sauce and roasted root vegetables. JL 93p (4/2019)

A very delicate second wine. Opulent red and dark berries, very sweet and fruity in palate. Elegant, fresh and polished. Easy and earlier drinking for sure comparing to Palmer but this second label was doing a very good job! 93-95

  • 94p
Dark purple red colour with violet hue and almost black core. Well structured nose with hints of ripe plums, plum jam, black cherries, discreet spiciness in the background. On the palate well structured with good balance, length, firm but mature tannins. Pleasant fruit in the finish, convincing length.

Deep colour. Blackberry, elderberry aromas with savoury oak notes. Inky blackberry cassis creamy flavours, silky extra fine graphite textures, and underlying vanilla, mocha ginger oak. Finishes firm and chewy at the finish. Elemental but in perfect symmetry. Lovely wine. 96 points

Alter Ego Margaux - 42% Cabernet Sauvignon 52% Merlot 6% Petit V erdot Good deep purple, chocolatey, ripe plummy fruit coming through on the nose, plenty of silk here, generous, lovely mouthfeel, depth and texture, it's vibrant, long and impressive for a second wine. 91-94/100 2021- 2035
