"The 2013 Hermitage Ex Voto is more concentrated as well as structured. Bacon fat, graphite, burning embers, and loads of darker fruits all emerge from this full-bodied, layered, silky Ex Voto that shines for its purity and elegance, all while still packing plenty of fruit. Bottles need 4-5 years, but it’s going to cruise in the cellar two decades."

The Story

Hermitage Ex-Voto represents the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Guigal to own his own vineyards on the hill of Hermitage. Through the purchase of the de Vallouit and J. L. Grippat domaines in 2000, Guigal acquired four vineyard parcels on this legendary site. The 2001 vintage was the first release of this estate-bottled Hermitage red and white.

Written Notes

Colour is purple and deep. On the nose it is intense, complex and generous. The taste is full, harmonious, refined, vivid, firm, with drying tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with complex, well-integrated, perfectly balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, toasty, pepper and spice flavours. The finish is long, round, vibrant and spicy. This wine is impressive. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting.
