The best batches are carefully selected, vinified and aged separately. Only some ten crus deserve this special treatment: the very best villages of the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Among them we find a predominance of Pinot Noir (64%) which marks the House’s style. Time is needed to reveal the fullness of Nature’s bounty. This year trialled the growers with many climatic hazards from excessive rainfalls to frosts, downy mildew, hail, draught and, finally, sunburn. A cool spring saw late-April frost, which cut volumes early on. Mildew was an issue throughout the region (especially in the Côte des Bar), equally diminishing volumes.
