The Story
Maison Mumm RSRV Rosé Foujita, released in May of this year, was also created as a tribute to Foujita. The RSRV series consists of special champagnes crafted to honor the friends of the Maison, made using only grapes carefully selected from Grand Cru vineyards. Past releases include Maison Mumm RSRV Blanc de Blancs and Maison Mumm RSRV Blanc de Noir, but due to their limited production they are only sold online in France.
In May, cellar master Didier Mariotti came to Japan to celebrate the release of Maison Mumm RSRV Rosé Foujita. This is what he had to say (translated from Japanese).
“Champagne is for sharing moments of happiness among people. For these special occasions, this RSRV collection was born. The first one we released was Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from the Chardonnay that are so important to our maison. Next we released Blanc de Noir, the opposite featuring only black grapes. Then we considered a rosé, and rosés are also very important to our maison. To celebrate the deep bonds between our maison and Foujita, we crafted this RSRV rosé as an homage to Foujita.
We should note that Maison Mumm RSRV Rosé Foujita is made with a base of white using Chardonnay from Cramant and Avize and the Pinot noir varieties from Ay, Bouzy and Verzenay. The red for blending uses Pinot noir from the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay. It offers cherry, rose and spice notes with a silky mouth feel. It’s graceful with a dignified beauty.
“Do you sense some kind of modest nuance? Because there is no elegance that isn’t modest,” laughs Mariotti. True to his words, Maison Mumm RSRV Rosé Foujita exudes a certain gentle fruit flavor. The softness and beauty conjure a lineage to the paintings of Tsuguharu Foujita.
