“The greatest Opus ever. / Opus One 2013 has been released at £1,100 per 6x75, equivalent to £2,200 per 12x75.

According to Liv-ex, at this price the vintage is offered around the levels of the estate’s 2011 and 2012, and looks favourable compared to older vintages, available at a 15.6% discount to the similarly scored 2008, for example.

The release has seen considerable excitement, largely focused on the quality of the vintage in Califo...

The Story

Time is expressed in Opus One by the character of the vintage: sometimes with a personality that is highly defined and sometimes with a shade of difference quite subtle from other vintages.  Through the minds and hands of the vineyard workers we capture time and the essence of the season – coaxing concentration and tempering abundance.

Place is often defined as terroir and denotes the special characteristics that geography, geology and clim...

Wine Information

A very dry and unseasonably warm winter gave the vines an early start to the growing season and set in motion what would become an extraordinary vintage for Opus One.  Flowering occurred under near-perfect conditions which led to excellent fruit set throughout our Oakville estate vineyards and ensured a bountiful harvest – though smaller than the previous year.  Ideal conditions continued during the summer with moderate temperatures prevailing...

The Opus One 2013 offers splendid aromas of blueberry, cassis, and blackberries with highlights of rose, anise and baking spices. A creamy entry gives way to layers of complexity which unfold in the mid-palate with velvety tannins enrobing a center of concentrated black fruit with juicy freshness. Ruby. Cassis, blackberries, some vanilla, scented, intense and layered, detailed and nuanced nose, bright yet deep. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, intense, nuanced, cassis, vanilla, spices, liquorice, stunning complexity and length. One gorgeous Opus One! 97

The greatest Opus ever. Terrific aromas of crushed black currants, blueberries and flowers with hints of sweet tobacco. Roses continue to exude opulence and class. Full body, superb balance of ultra-fine tannins and vibrant acidity. Complex aftertaste of black fruits and citrus fruit. Extremely persistent. So approachable now and enjoyable. But will be even better in 2019 and beyond.

  • 100p

Young, dense and concentrated Opus One. This vintage combines both ripeness with freshness - the finish is fairly long. Great potential to age and evolve.

  • 94p

Intense and elegant nose with seductive cassis and dark chocolate aromas. Full-bodied palate is very elegant with vivid acidity and refined tannins. The mouthfeel is smooth with finesse. The texture of oak and tannins in the mouth reminds of a sensantion of having Van Houten cacao powder in the mouth. So fine-grained tannins! Long lingering and gently spicy finish. Absolutely charming wine and one of the best Opus Ones for decades!
