The Story

Dom Ruinart cuvées: The origin of their grapes, exclusively Grand Crus, gives these cuvées, a high maturing potential provided that they are aged in optimum conditions of temperature, humidity and darkness, 10, 20 years or more depending on the vintage.

The wine will then take on more toasted, grilled and intense notes and its aromatic profile will develop as the years pass. This is a question of preference. Without exception, a Dom Ruinart...

Wine Information

The year 2013 stands out for a winter where temperatures fell below the ten-year average with periods of snow and freezing. Spring persisted with cool temperatures and was marked by heavy rainfall. Flowering began late in in July. An extremely sunny and warm summer helped the vines to offset these earlier delays. Harvest was late with Chardonnay picking beginning on October 1st. Maturity at harvest was very good, the Chardonnays combined notes...

Vintage 2013

The Champagne harvest 2013– late, but potentially outstanding

It has been another strange year for Champagne, starting with a cold, wet winter, followed by a gloomy, chilly spring with a lot of rain. Vine development started two weeks behind the ten-year average, and never made up for that lost time.

Along the way came a hot dry summer, boosting fruit quality thanks to the most sunshine ever recorded in Champagne in July and August.

Written Notes

A luminous pale gold hue with subtle green reflections, evoking the freshness of spring. The fine, persistent bubbles rise elegantly, creating a delicate and creamy mousse that hints at the champagne’s sophistication and finesse.

The bouquet is both vibrant and intricate, showcasing the hallmark purity of Dom Ruinart’s Blanc de Blancs. Aromas of freshly baked brioche and toasted almonds intertwine with citrus blossoms, lime zest, and crisp green apples. With time in the glass, deeper notes of wet chalk, white peaches, and honeysuckle emerge, complemented by a subtle hint of acacia honey and a whisper of sea spray.

On the palate, the Dom Ruinart 2013 is a revelation of precision and depth. The attack is lively, with a burst of Meyer lemon, grapefruit, and green pear, balanced by a creamy texture and a fine, chalky minerality. The mid-palate unfurls layers of white nectarines, quince, and roasted hazelnuts, adding depth and complexity. A vibrant acidity carries the flavors effortlessly, leading to a long, saline-inflected finish, where hints of flinty smokiness and candied lemon linger beautifully.

This is a wine of impeccable balance, marrying freshness and richness in perfect harmony. The taut acidity, characteristic of the 2013 vintage, provides a crystalline backbone, while the extended lees ageing adds complexity and texture. It is both approachable now and poised for long-term evolution, promising even greater elegance with time.

The Dom Ruinart 2013 is a gastronomic delight, versatile enough to complement both refined and adventurous dishes. Pair it with seared scallops and a citrus beurre blanc, delicate Dover sole with a beurre noisette, or a creamy risotto with truffle shavings. For a unique pairing, try it with sushi or sashimi, where its freshness and minerality enhance the purity of the fish.

The Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 2013 is a masterpiece of Chardonnay, embodying the finesse and complexity of Ruinart’s signature style. It is a champagne of remarkable depth, purity, and elegance, celebrating the exceptional potential of the 2013 vintage. While it captivates today, it holds immense promise for further ageing, making it a true collector’s gem.
