The Story

After almost 30 years of experimentation and solid work the Marquis decided to release Sassicaia´s 1968 vintage to the open market using his cousin´s, Antinori´s distribution network in the early 1970s, with instant sensation. At a Decanter tasting of Cabernet wines in London, 1978, Sassicaia from vintage 1972 beat all the other 33 wines of France and California, and since then Sassicaia has been one of the leading wines in the world and in gr...

Tasting note

Written Notes

APPEARANCE.

Clear, medium intense ruby core fading towards the medium intense mahogany core.

Viscosity is meAdium.

AROMA

I will suggest to decant it 30 minutes before approaching it. Aromatic and developed with dark cherries, plums, and blackcurrant mixed with prunes and a hint of dry redcurrant. There is a generous spicy character featured by clove, allspice, and a hint of green bell pepper. Oak is subtle, well integrated adding nuance to the wine.

FLAVOUR

Palate conforms to the aroma. Medium body with developed character and rounded savory nad refreshing aftertaste. Medium + finish, with Bordeaux-like, feel.

CONCLUSION

On reflection, feels much older than BDX would. Moving nicely to the plateau of maturity should get there in next 5 years.
