The Story

The chateau makes three different wines. The so-called grand vin, that is Château Latour itself, a second wine called Les Forts de Latour and a third wine simply called Pauillac. The grand vin comes from the original part of the vineyards, called the Enclos. This is the most prestigious part of the vineyard where the vines have a fine view of the Gironde estuary. The tradition in Bordeaux says that vines that overlook the water make the best w...

Written Notes

Tasted in April 2024. 92.3% Cabernet Sauvignon + 7.7% Merlot. 13.2% alcohol. It is an elegant version of this First Growth with intense blackcurrants, finesse, tenderness, a sophisticated touch, and a multi-layered palate. There is a remarkable purity, midpalate, acidity and a long finish. Stupendous wine.

Réussite impressionnante avec un corps majestueux. Intensité, franchise aromatique, c’est une expression classique et moins « baroque » que dans les millésimes chauds. Magistral!

  • 98p

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle ochre rim brightening. Still somewhat restrained, savoury bouquet, fine dark forest berries, nuances of blackberry, with candied orange zest in the background. Complex, juicy, elegant, tightly woven texture, vivid, supporting tannins, red berry touch on the finish, mineral-salty, shows an astonishing freshness, remains persistent, a lively food companion with secure and certain ageing potential.

  • 97p

Dark fruits, anise, liquorice, fruit forward nose, spices. Tifght and firm yet detailed.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, blackberries, dark fruits, layered, liquorice, nuanced, detailed and long. 97-99

  • 99p

The purity is really present, it’s as though you are eating the fruit and grape skins. It’s full- to medium-bodied and grows on the palate, showing purity and transparency. Graphite, lead pencil and dark fruit. You really feel the powdery tannins in a polished and reserved way. Then it all integrates. 13.2% alcohol. 92.3% cabernet sauvignon and 7.7% merlot. 98-99
