The Story

Of the 1,000 hectares making up the Vega Sicilia estate, 210 are used for wine growing, and there are 19 soil-types divided for management purposes into 52 plots with very specific characteristics. The influence of the flow of the river Duero and the passage of time have been vital in forming these soils.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle, in an perfect condition and has by the neck level. Colour is purple, deep and youthful . On the nose it is intense, refined, fresh, generous and charming. The taste is fresh, vigor, vivid, powerful, and dry, with silky tannins, full-bodied, with balanced, complex, good texture structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, chocolate, leather, mineral, mushrooms, tobacco, toasty, tropical fruits, earthy and herbs flavours. The finish is long, extensive, pure and spicy. This wine is intelligent,a mouthfilling and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least 2h before tasting. Good value for money.

Won’t be launched until 2015. Very unusual to be allowed such a preview, apparently. Generous in terms of sunshine like 2003. Atypical ripeness. Expected to mature relatively early.
Dark crimson with a little evolution at the rim. Warm and ripe with menthol and balsamic notes. Tannins very supple and notable acidity even though Javier says the vintage was unusually ripe. Dry finish. Lightly dusty. Very clean finish but no complexity yet.

Dark garnet red with almost black core. Balmy character, ripe plums and black cherries, well structured with a certain elegance but a different backbone than previous vintages. Shows power, depth and great length.
