Of the 1,000 hectares making up the Vega Sicilia estate, 210 are used for wine growing, and there are 19 soil-types divided for management purposes into 52 plots with very specific characteristics. Written Notes

This was a vintage prior to the Álvarez family period. 1975 was not a successful vintage in many regions but Spain and the Ribera del Duero made a delightful exception. It is, in fact, known as one of the great historical vintages of the house. The wine perfectly lived up to its reputation being harmonious and powerful as well as youthful. Clear and deep ruby-red colour. The nose is astonishingly youthful revealing black cherry, lingonberry and smoke aromas. Oak nuances are still slightly noticeable and the delicate yet complex nose is enriched by tobacco notes. A medium-bodied, feminine and very elegantly harmonious wine. A firm tannic backbone supports the persistent and flavourful wine.

Deep ruby, brick rim, lots of sediments. A level fill, cork 2/3 soaked. Liquorice, dark fruits, leather, complex but a bit vague, it doesn't lack in concentration either, it's just always drifting away as you try to reach for something. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lingering, elegant, complex, a lot is always going on, but very elusive, long length. 90
