Three excellent vintages in Champagne were 1988, 1989 and 1990. Initially, many considered 1990 the finest of the trio, but that mantle has since passed to 1988. Some of the 1990 champagnes have evolved more quickly than anticipated, and there can be variation among bottles and producers. Nu borde belackarna ha tystnat! Det blev under en period populärt att döma ut 1990:orna som oxiderade. Men de allra flesta är nu inne i en ungdomlig stadig fas mot storhet. Champagner från 1990 var länge betydligt stramare än 1989:an, men rikare än 1988:an. Måhända är 1988:an mer klassisk, men 1990 är något alldeles extra. Vinerna är så extraktrika att man kan tugga dem. Vid tio års ålder mognade många 1990:or och fick en honungston uppbackad av saffran som kan vara en bra hake på blindprovningar. Det ska bli oerhört spännande att följa den berömda trilogin på deras resa genom tiden. Drag av Muscat, torkade druvor, honung, torkade blommor. Delikat snarare än rik. Kanel, torra kryddor, pinjekåda(!). Avslutas med en liten ton av rökighet.
