The Story

Thanks to the rigour and all the meticulous care lavished on this growth on a daily basis, Château Lascombes can claim to be one of the top wines of Margaux. Both firm and unctuous in style, the wine has individual character and an ageing potential which enables cellaring for decades. The high proportion of Merlot in the blend also makes it very easy to enjoy during its first years.

Combining power and elegance and an unctuous and tannin-ri...

Vintage 2016

Bordeaux 2016 in review “A paradox”

by Andrew Caillard MW

The 2016 Bordeaux vintage will be remembered as one of the great years of the 21st century. I haven't been this excited about the prospects of wines this young since the remarkable 2009 and 2010 vintages. At that time, China was at the zenith of its extraordinary rise of fine wines where the highest estates, particularly Château Lafite , had become a backwater currency. Each man a...

Written Notes

Tasted in January 2023. A stylish wine with strong structure and great elegance, complex and precise with pretty fruit and tannin, well-defined, elegant, fine acidity. Persistent finish. Textbook Margaux wine.

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is cherry red, and looking clear and medium. On the nose it is wide, pure and complex. The taste is fruity, voluptuous, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with well-structured structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has pepper, blackberry, smoky, cranberry, cedar and earthy flavours. The finish is long and spicy. This wine is excellent. I paid around 50-100€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 45min before tasting. Good value for money. I do recommend.

Very concentrated nose with multi-layered fruit, distinct toasting aroma, dark chocolate and roasted peanuts, elegant spiciness with vanilla and hints of cinnamon in he background. On the palate well structured with impressing mouthfeel, great depth and length in a quite modern style, dark chocolate and coffee, crushed dark berries and ripe plums. Excellent length. 97
