The Story

Thanks to the rigour and all the meticulous care lavished on this growth on a daily basis, Château Lascombes can claim to be one of the top wines of Margaux. Both firm and unctuous in style, the wine has individual character and an ageing potential which enables cellaring for decades. The high proportion of Merlot in the blend also makes it very easy to enjoy during its first years.

Combining power and elegance and an unctuous and tannin-rich texture, Château Lascombes is a complex wine. In its youth, it always has an amazingly deep colour. On the palate, finesse and a rich texture combine with very stylish fine-grained tannins.
Gradually over the years, Château Lascombes should be enjoyed again and again so as to fully appreciate its complexity of flavour and to see how its structure has developed a more and more suave mouth-feel.

Vintage 2020

In Bordeaux, the heat led to early flowering. Additionally, this led to an early harvest after a very hot summer. As a starting point, there is great maturity in the grapes, and we can expect a more opulent vintage than in recent years.

This year's summer was the hottest since 1959, but the rain fell at just the right time during the growing season. The harvest took place two weeks before the norm and will produce grapes with high alcohol potential and the lowest acidity since the 2003 vintage. As they say in Bordeaux: “It was a good and extreme growing season which , hopefully, also produces great wines.”

Written Notes

Tasted in April 2023. 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. 13.5% alcohol. It had an aromatic nose of blackcurrants, grilled bacon and coffee beans, stylish elegance and finesse, and a fine structure with finely-grained tannin. A bit lighter than usual. It's a textbook Margaux wine. 94-95p.

  • 95p

Intense purple colour with violet hue and black core. Sophisticated nose with complex aroma reminiscent of ripe blackcurrants, blackcurrant spurs, sweet blackberries and hints of ripe blueberries. In the background oriental spices and floral hints reminiscent of roses and Darjeeling leaf. On the palate expressive and well balanced with silky tannins, juicy fruit, elegant spiciness, subtle oak and fine toasting, creating a wonderful mouthfell and an excellent length.

  • 97p

Ruby. Blackberries, floral, nuanced and deep nose, layered and intense. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, detailed, ripe and somewhat richer yet with freshness, long. 14% alcohol. 91-93

  • 93p
