The Story

Léoville Poyferré has 80 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).

Written Notes

Medium deep colour. Oaky wine with vanilla spice varnish over blackcurrant fruit. Palate is richly concentrated and supple with generous dark berry fruits and chocolaty textures. Finishes chalky and inky. Some roasted hazelnut notes. Elemental but with the right weight and balance. 94 points

  • 94p

Tasted in March 2015. Fine aromas of red fruit on the nose, strong structure and backbone, fine complexity, depth and length.

  • 93p
Dark purple red with violet hue and black centre. Complex nose, toasted flavous, dark chocolate, hints of coffee, succulent fruit, blackberries and blackcurrants, dark cherries, hints of gingerbread spices, a rich but elegant nose. On the palate very well balanced wicht rich tannins, hints of freshness, complex flavours and excellent length. A wine with promising potential.
