The Story

Léoville Poyferré has 80 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).

Léoville Poyferré traditionally produced the softest and most supple wine of the 3 Léovilles, yet in the last decade the wines have definitely put on weight and body. This is largely due to the grapes being harvested riper and later and because of the increased exposure to new oak in the maturation p...

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is cherry red, and looking clear and medium. On the nose it is tempting, fresh and complex. The taste is voluptuous, full, elegant, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with well-structured structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has pepper, toasty, plum, blueberry, floral, mineral and earthy flavours. The finish is long and spicy. This wine is excellent. I paid around 50-100€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 30min before tasting. Good value for money. I do recommend.

Very deep colour, this is savoury, meaty, black coffee notes, a serious concentration here, blue fruits underneath, lovely weight and texture, this is sizeable as expected by the colour, it is a racy wine with lots of energy and bags of structure, heavy in the extraction but I think it is still a point, a big and impressive Poyferre

Tasted in April 2016. Stylish and classy wine, well-packed with perfect ripe fruit and tannin, well-structured and complex, long finish. Awesome effort for the vintage.

Deep colour. Liquorice, dark cherry aromas with elderberry notes. Richly concentrated wien with dense fruits, substantial fresh dense tannins and varnishy oak and lovely mineral length. Some brambly grippy elements at the finish which give persistency and depth. Very good. 93 points

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Complex nose with fine fruit, expressive roasting aroma, complex and rich. On the palate well structured with full-bodied character, ripe and velvety tannins, excellent length and depth. Complex and powerful with finesse.
