The Story

Léoville Poyferré has 80 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).

Léoville Poyferré traditionally produced the softest and most supple wine of the 3 Léovilles, yet in the last decade the wines have definitely put on weight and body. This is largely due to the grapes being harvested riper and later and because of the increased exposure to new oak in the maturation p...

Vintage 2016

Bordeaux 2016 in review “A paradox”

by Andrew Caillard MW

The 2016 Bordeaux vintage will be remembered as one of the great years of the 21st century. I haven't been this excited about the prospects of wines this young since the remarkable 2009 and 2010 vintages. Written Notes

Tasted in April 2017. was very complex, big succulent, with silky structure, velvety fruit and tannin, refined and with long aftertaste. Great effort indeed.

Wow the colour is awesome, this is tight on the nose with a touch of wood sap, baked bread, dark chocolate, this more on the dark side, grilled, the texture is ridiculous, so concentrated yet so soft, the tannins are incredibly polished, the fruit is pinpoint, finishes with a long toasty nonchalant finish, reminds me of the 2010 but more sex appeal.

Ruby. Scented, floral, detailed, blackberries and anise nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, detailed, lively, a brighter Poyferré, refreshing and long. 94-96

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Elegant nose with fine fruit, elegant spiciness. On the palate well structured, the freshness and balance of 2010 and the sweetness of 2009, great balance and length. A very elegant wine with perfect balance. 97
