The Story

Cariad, the Welsh word for “love”, is a Bordeaux-style red wine blended from three outstanding vineyards owned and managed by David Abreu. Written Notes

The 2000 “Cariad” offers complexity and earth-driven nuance. Saturated ruby in color, aromas of red currant, plum, and orange rind blossom. With time in the glass, soil and ripe kirsch slowly unfold. The wine is layered and concentrated, with good acidity and solid tannins. The 2000 “Cariad” drank well in its youth and continues to display the structure that helps it age for an additional twenty years.

The 21st Century in the Napa Valley began with an idyllic vintage. A spring and summer free from climatic challenges yielded fruit of exceptional quality. The 2000 vintage was defined by a cool, even growing season throughout, except for a three-day stretch of unusually high temperatures in June. The threat of rain loomed in late August, but the vineyards were spared. Harvest began in mid-September and carried through the third week of October. The wines of the 2000 vintage carry tremendous balance and complexity.

Dark garnet red colour. Pronounced, intense dark chocolate and smoky nose with touch of bacon and salty licorice. Full-bodied, firm and intense palate with vivid acidity enhanced with spicy minerality. Long finish with sour dark cherries and balckcurrants. JL 93p (9/2018)
