There is enormous beauty to be found in the 2011 vintage! The experiences of the season are what help distinguish the pedigree of the Colgin vineyard sites from others. The 2011 growing season in Napa Valley seems only to be recognized for its challenges, yet a great site can take challenges in stride. With a wet start to the season, we have a significant advantage in that each of our sites is planted on hillsides with well-draining rocky soil...

The Story

From an exceptional site that imparts earthy, ethereal notes of power and elegance, this signature cabernet reveals intense, deep layers of crème de cassis, barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry and freshly cut flowers that excite the palate. Incredibly long and round, it is our rarest wine, the 2002 vintage achieving our first perfect score as “a wine of enormous concentration, multiple dimensions, layers of flavor, and a sensational one minut...

Wine Information

The wine produced from "Tychson Hill" in 2011 perfectly exemplifies the hallmark of the vintage- vivid aromatics. This wine is loaded with perfumed floral notes of violets, purple wildflowers and even a hint of rose. Underneath these seductive layers, I find undertones of darker fruit flavors such as black cherry, boysenberry and licorice. Subtle hints of Thai spices, vanillin and wet stones bring complexity and distinction to the nose. The te...

Written Notes

Cedar, tobacco and cassis on the nose. Palate is elegant and fresh with Bordeaux-like elegance and herbal elements. Finish is earthy and mineral. A beautiful, balanced 2011 that should age well.

The wine~s inner density and freshness linger into a deliciously long finish. The perfume alone makes this wine enjoyable near term, yet the freshness and youth it shows suggest it has a very long life ahead.
