The Story

From an exceptional site that imparts earthy, ethereal notes of power and elegance, this signature cabernet reveals intense, deep layers of crème de cassis, barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry and freshly cut flowers that excite the palate. Incredibly long and round, it is our rarest wine, the 2002 vintage achieving our first perfect score as “a wine of enormous concentration, multiple dimensions, layers of flavor, and a sensational one minute plus finish. Its purity, harmony and symmetry are prodigious.”

Wine Information

"To describe Tychson Hill and the wine it makes I find myself constantly thinking about the great single vineyards of the world and how fortunate we are to have this true "monopole" in our repertoire. Tychson Hill is a small, enclosed two and one-half acre vineyard that produces a miniscule crop of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes each year. In 2003 our berry set was good enabling a few more cases to be made from this small vineyard. Instead of taking three vines to produce one bottle of wine, we averaged one bottle per two vines.

In 2003 we diligently sorted the grapes twice in the winery to ensure that only the most perfect examples of this premier fruit source went into the wine. As winemaker, I am always impressed by how the terroir reveals itself in the wine. The color of this cabernet is deeply pitched red to black. The wine is vibrant and complex with notes of red skinned fruits, earth and exotic spices such as Tamarind. The tannins are ripe and supple and there is good acid structure for ageing. Bottled without fining or filtration, this wine will continue to improve with bottle age or will drink well near term."
