The Story

The vines on this steep 4 hectare vineyard are now 30-50 years old. At 260 metres, it's the highest of the three Weil hillside sites, yet thanks to its aspect and deeper, weathered slate soils, it also produces the supplest and most forward of these wines. The Weil team often uses the term 'baroque' when describing wines from the Klosterberg, referring to the wines overt exuberance.

Winemaking: 70% was fermented naturally in Weil's 2,400 litre Stockinger casks.

Written Notes

Dry,complex Riesling, with an extreme elegance and minerality shaped by the stony, crumbling soils of the renowned Klosterberg vineyard.

The Klosterberg borders the Kiedrich Turmberg and Kiedrich Gräfenberg - it is the third ‘Berg’ vineyard of Kiedrich. The name Klosterberg derives from the old path, the so-called ‘Klosterweg’, that crosses through the vineyards and links Kloster Eberbach to Kiedrich. The shallow to deep soil of the southwest facing cliffs are composed of Devonian (colored slate) and Pre-Devonian (phyllite and gneiss) rock interspersed with gravelly loess.
