The Story

Dom Pérignon vintages are released after 7 years of ageing. A small portion of each vintage is kept on the lees even longer, to continue the evolution and magnify its natural qualities.

Only one person - the Dom Pérignon cellar master - can decide if and when to re-release a vintage. The P2 label indicates that the vintage has reached its second peak in maturity, with optimized intensity (15 to 20 years after harvest). The P3 label indicate...

Wine Information

The year was full of contrasts, with a variable summer. The wetter periods never quite made up for the earlier moisture deficit. Eventually, in the month before the harvest (which began on September 16), spells of hot weather and northeasterly winds gave the vintage an unusual maturity.

The intense nose is daring, with surprising Mediterranean influences mingling dried roses, citron, saffron, figs and bay leaf. The bouquet expresses darker,...

Vintage 1995

A welcome relief after some difficult years in the region. Quantity-wise, it was the seventh high-cropping year in a row. But, in 1995, the quality also excelled, and particularly so for Chardonnay. There were significant frost damages during the spring and the warm but wet weather in the summer ignited mildew and rot problems. The vines cropped heavily and rigorous vineyard work and selection during harvest led to best results. Harvest commen...

Written Notes

As usual, Richard Geoffroy—like his predecessor—has succeeded in creating a wine that has seductive suppleness, complexity, and concentration in one and the same wine. In that sense, Dom Pérignon has a greatness that no other wines can really match, excepting La Tâche in Burgundy. This sensual, flower-meadow-scented, cream pastry wine needs many years to itself to enter into the loveliest, fully matured stage spiced with exoticism, but what does that matter? Let us be ravished by its hedonistic charm and drink the drops of pleasure in its tender youth.

“There is a timeless feel to this beauty, which is unmistakeably Dom Pérignon in its pristinely pure, smoky mineral character. Beautiful Pinot aromas, underwood, cherry, spice and chocolate. Tight and first in the glass but builds up over time into an excuisitely refined yet endlessly layered whole. Seamless is the right word for this wine that has rested on its yeast lees for over 15 years bringing such harmony to it. Velvet-smooth, linear palate full of energy. Positively vinous, intense and lingering. Great exuberance of fruit. Even if the 1995 was a rich vintage, its Dom Pérignon Rosé P2 is a particularly elegant wine, which will go on and on.”

The bouquet continues to vibrate with the fruit. As it breathes, the wine opens up. Bright notes of cherry and violet soon mingle with hints of rye, praline and smoke.

In the mouth, the wine is perfectly coherent. Radiant overall, it opens with ease. Elegant, contained and fleshy in its breadth, it has a mellow, exotic finish.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is salmon and light. On the nose it is open, intense, complex, refined and generous. The taste is harmonious, fruity, elegant, fragrant, vivid, and dry, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with perfectly balanced structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has toasty, raspberry, mint and creamy flavours. The finish is long, gentle, round, flavorful, vibrant and lingering. This wine is sophisticated and impressive. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years.
