The Story

Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage champagnes, unlike most champagnes, are made from the grapes of a single exceptional year. Each Grand Vintage is unique. Each possesses the distinctive, imitable qualities of that year’s outstanding grapes, qualities which have been elevated to their fullest expression through the savoir-faire, experience and expertise of Moët & Chandon and the House’s chef de cave.
Since 1842, the House has released 69 vintage ch...

Written Notes

One good 1911 Moet deserves another.  This was a later release; in fact, it was released by Moet to celebrate the 100th year of this vintage.  When first released, it was sold at auction along with a date with Scarlett Johansson.  I’m not sure if the first buyer ever got that date, but I do know that the second buyer insisted if he got that date, Hollywood history might have been a little different lol.  There was a ‘bigger finish’ here per Big Boy, and Jetski admired its ‘smokiness.’  There was so much exotic to this bottle – exotic fruits, exotic fireplace.  It was clearly the most complex, and most people’s favorite.  110 years old never tasted so good (98).

 Pale amber.
Nuanced, some brioche, nuanced, bright, not that intense, touch of petrol and more of apricot stones.  Fresh acidity, apples, minerals, detailed, nuanced, such lightness and finesse, long finish.

  • 94p

Amber colour with slightly golden hue. Elegant nose displaying hints of brioche, dried apricots and tangerine zest. Refined gingerbread spices in the background. On the palate fine CO2, very good length, fine structured and depth.

  • 95p

Light golden colour with no bubbles. Round and surprisingly fresh nose shows lovely nuances of toastiness and brioche. The moderately light palate is dry and crisp with refined and delicately elegant, lingering finish. A charming wine. – JL 96p (Aug 2023)
