The Story

Formerly named Château Laville Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc is produced in such extremely limited quantities that it is confined to the initiated. Its make-up almost 85% of Semillon, 14% Sauvignon Blanc and a pinch of Muscadelle ? also makes it unique. When young it possesses the characteristics of a premier Gewurztraminer. With time it trades its Alsatian color for the amber of the great Sauterne wines. Then this dry white ...

NEWS: BORDEAUX 2021 VINTAGE by Pros: What do the critics think?

Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2021 Bordeaux turned out to be such a surprise. The weather conditions were difficult, and yet the best properties turned out magnificent and classic wines that will absolutely delight readers who appreciate freshness and energy. The restrained alcohols and mid-weight structures will remind readers of Bordeaux before the 2000s. The best wines offer...

Written Notes

The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was cool, challenging, and stylistically classical. Dry whites were the clear stars of the year. A combination of mild summer temperatures and a long, measured ripening period preserved remarkable acidity and aromatic precision. For La Mission Haut Brion Blanc, whose old vines and gravelly soils excel in cooler conditions, 2021 delivered a wine of exceptional poise, purity, and mineral drive.

La Mission Haut Brion Blanc 2021 opens with a luminous and finely detailed bouquet. Aromas of citrus blossom, fresh grapefruit, lime zest, and crisp pear rise from the glass, joined by layers of jasmine, verbena, and crushed herbs. Subtle notes of flint, wet stone, and gentle oak spice underscore the depth and refinement of the wine.

On the palate, it is brilliantly focused and perfectly balanced. A vibrant core of citrus and orchard fruit glides across a crystalline frame of tension and energy. The Sauvignon Blanc brings lift and aromatic brightness, while the Sémillon adds texture, quiet richness, and breadth. Flavors of lemon curd, white peach, and green mango develop alongside nuances of savory herbs, beeswax, and chalky minerality.

The finish is long, pure, and strikingly fresh, leaving lingering impressions of citrus oil, stone, and white flowers. This is a superb La Mission Blanc, transparent and beautifully sculpted, showing the precision and character of the 2021 vintage at its finest. It will age gracefully for fifteen to twenty years, gaining honeyed depth and lanolin complexity while holding its vibrant line.

Peach and waxed-lemon character here. Some fennel and aniseed, too. Very fresh. Medium to full body with a round, creamy palate. A little closed for now at the end. 55.2% semillon and 44.8% sauvignon. 95-96

Bright yellow colour with green hue. Refined but very persistent nose, ripe fruit, peaches and lemon zest, hints of aromatic herbs, discreet hints of tropical fruit (passionfruit and papaya) and white blossoms in the background. Fine toasting, hints of graphite and a discreet smoky whiff. On the palate very elegant and persistent with excellent depth and length, very classic style with excellent length. Great class.
