The Story

La Mission Haut Brion is situated in Bordeaux' southern suburb, Talence. From 1919 and until 1983, it was Woltner family, who had owned this property. Under Woltner's reign, La Mission Haut Brion experienced one of its greatest period with string of fine vintages and was considered then as fully on the level with First Growths and sometimes even better than these. Wine Information

One of the vintage’s top wines is the 2006 La Mission-Haut-Brion. From bottle, it reminds me of the 1998, given its structure and backward style. Dense ruby/purple-colored, it possesses a boatload of tannin, but with coaxing, tobacco leaf, sweet black currant, burning ember, and blue fruit characteristics emerge. Written Notes

Ruby, ripe, intense, towards heavy for Pessac, cassis, minerals. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, very different animal from the elegant and layered Haut-Brion of the vintage, needs time. 93

Tasted four times. Consistent notes. La Mission Haut Brion (59% Merlot + 40% Cabernet Sauvignon + 1% Cabernet Franc) delivered great performances in 2006, but wasn't as hedonistic as its 2005 version. This wine was massive, a bit atypical of usual style of LMB, full of dark cherries and blackcurrants added big portions of ripe tannins, densely knitted, rich and with exquisite and silky structure. One to lay down for at least 20 years.
