The Story

Olivier Bernard's extensive project at Domaine de Chevalier has really come to fruition. After a bold and not to mention expensive re-planting program throughout the `80s and then a decade and a half of patience for the vines to gain maturity, we can really see the benefits. 2005, 2008, 2009 and now 2010 rank amongst the very best wines produced in this sprawling commune. Powerful but graceful, true to their terroir, and just so enjoyable to d...

Vintage 2021

NEWS: BORDEAUX 2021 VINTAGE by Pros: What do the critics think?

Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2021 Bordeaux turned out to be such a surprise. The weather conditions were difficult, and yet the best properties turned out magnificent and classic wines that will absolutely delight readers who appreciate freshness and energy. The restrained alcohols and mid-weight structures will remind readers of Bordeaux before the 2000s. The best wines offer...

Written Notes

The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux produced remarkably vibrant and classical dry whites. A cool growing season, moderated sunshine, and well-timed late-summer conditions preserved striking acidity and aromatic definition. While yields were modest, the fruit harvested for top estates showed exceptional purity and precision. For Domaine de Chevalier, whose white wines excel in cooler, linear years, 2021 delivered a cuvée of outstanding finesse, minerality, and tension.

The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 2021 opens with a beautifully lifted and crystalline nose. Aromas of lemon zest, grapefruit, white peach, and green pear rise from the glass, supported by notes of lime blossom, verbena, and crushed stone. Subtle hints of wet slate, fennel, and gentle oak spice reveal a wine of sophistication and quiet depth.

On the palate, the wine is focused, vivid, and elegantly textured. A core of citrus, orchard fruit, and delicate tropical hints is carried by brisk acidity that gives the wine remarkable energy and length. The Sémillon component brings gentle creaminess and mid-palate breadth, balancing the vibrant character of Sauvignon Blanc. Mineral notes of chalk, flint, and cool earth run through the wine, reinforcing its precision and sense of place.

The finish is long, pure, and beautifully refreshing, leaving impressions of citrus oil, white flowers, and stony clarity. This is a superb Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, built on finesse and transparency. It will age gracefully for 10 to 20 years, developing honeyed complexity and greater textural richness while maintaining its elegant line.

This is always an impressive white, with a lengthy, layered and compact palate. Lots of dried lemon, clove, fennel, green-apple and cedar. Flint and toast, too. Medium to full body. INcredible long. 70% sauvignon blanc and 30% semillon. 98-99

Bright yellow with green hue. Very aromatic nose with freshness and aromatic depth, fragrant fruit, grapefruit zest, fresh tangerine, peaches and hints of apricots, discreet tropical fruit in the background. Flavourful aromatic herbs, a whiff of basil and mint. On the palate well balanced and structured with great precision, elegance and depth, crisp acidity, rich fruit and excellent length and great freshness. A great wine.
