The Story

The winemaker’s role is to reflect the best the terroir has to offer and to reproduce the intrinsic taste parameters that correspond to Domaine de Chevalier.

Olivier Bernard describes Domaine de Chevalier’s white wines: “Our aim is not to make the wine as fruity as possible at all costs. Measured extraction and barrel ageing create very complex wines – beautifully fresh, never heavy, and with an incredibly long aftertaste that “unfolds like...

Written Notes

Not overtly pronounced on the nose, a little shy, if not perhaps muted. Leads with plum, black currant and a distince savoury edge: Oolong tea, turned earth and asian spices. On the palate quite tart, sweet sour blackcurrant and plum, with tart black berry and black olive - leads with acid first, then some very well integrated tannin. Only the slightest nuances of bay leaf and five spice. Did not improve in a decanter. Not sure if bottle proveneance an issue here, or simply that the wine is somewhat closed and shut down.

Dark, intense, ruby on the disc, glossy black heart. Characteristic and complex flavors. Intensity, finesse and distinction. Fruitiness reminiscent of blackberry, black currant, black cherry and blueberry. Mineral flavors, highlighted by a touch of graphite, smoked and fresh mint, express gravely soil mixed with clay. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon gives a spicy character. A fresh attack on the palate, sweet and fruity evolves on a smooth important tannic high class structure. Smocked back-flavors like licorice, resinous convoy the fruity nose ever felt. The tannins are very elegant. They extend the wine in a superb final, delicate and balanced with good acidity. Wine with great aging potential. Drinking between 2016 and 2024.
Ruby, Pessac smoke and elegant fruit, layered but somewhat closed at the moment. Palate is lovely balanced, nuanced with fresh acidity, ripe tannins and long length. 92
