Wine Description
The Story
Gran Viña Sol was a pioneer in the production of cask-fermented Chardonnay in Spain. Its name is very apt as it's a wine of greater complexity and presence than the traditional Viña Sol.
Chardonnay and Parellada are harmoniously blended after careful fermentation of a percentage in Limousin oak barrels, thus retaining the character of each variety. The result is a magnificent, intense wine.
Chardonnay – This grape is the queen of our Milmanda Estate in Conca de Barberà, we also grow it in our vineyards of Upper and Middle Penedès.
Parellada – The finest and most delicate of the traditional Catalan white varieties.
Serving: A wonderful accompaniment to fromage frais, salt and freshwater fish, seafood (particularly good with seafood paella), even chicken and turkey.
Producer's Tasting Note: Thanks to the presence of the Chardonnay, the wine is intensely aromatic and full-bodied, with a profusion of flowery notes over a fruity background (very ripe peaches) and a hint of fennel. On the palate the wine has a long aftertaste and is silky with an elegant fullness. A touch of vanilla in the finish is indicative of the wine’s short ageing in French oak.
