History

The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot and took the name Vve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, the widow of Eugène Laurent, combined the two family names after she decided to expand the business. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939.

During WWII, Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt ran the business while two of her sons, Maurice and Bernard, joined the French Resistance. In 1945, Bernard de Nonancourt began an exacting apprenticeship, learning every aspect of winemaking from vine to cellar, before his appointment in October 1948 as Chairman and Chief Executive. At that point, the House was employing around 20 people and shipping 80,000 bottles a year.

Fired by a passion for champagne, a respect for traditional values and, most importantly, for people, Bernard de Nonancourt inspired Laurent-Perrier with his independent spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged working relationships with the grape growers and cleverly combined innovation and tradition. He created the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, lightness and elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes which are today exported to 147 countries worldwide.

Winemaking

In the House’s view, art, elegant lines, and the beauty of objects and places are inseparable from man’s daily preoccupations with wines, their vinification, their blending, and their patient maturing during the long years of cellar ageing.

As far back as the early 1960s, the first winery made using enamelled steel was presented with as much fanfare as if it had featured noble oak casks and barrels. The new, dedicated Grand Siècle winery, is being installed in the same location.

Isolated behind two sets of glass doors, 14 tanks each with a capacity of 110 hectolitres are lined up equidistantly along the central aisle. From the arching roof overhead, the light falls onto the graceful stainless steel curves of the tanks, infinitely reflected in the shimmer of the high-tech LED lighting, making them seemingly endless.

Richard Juhlin , Wine Writer (Sweden)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  12 wines

Krug Clos du Mesnil 1982 / The wine of the vintage. More Krug-like than Mesnil-like. The color is reminiscent of a big, white, toasted, oak-barrel Burgundy—even the scent points in that direction. It has an oriental, spicy nose. Toffee, honey, coffee, linden, cream, butterscotch, sun-ripened oranges: it's got everything! Enveloped in a Corton-Charlemagne-like fat, nutty, enormous taste. The acidity is incredibly high but it hides beneath a layer of sweet fruit. One of myWINNERS  at the Millennium Tasting. The last two bottles have shown a rich big maturity and less refinement so the gigant is now down on 98 points.

The 100 Best Champagnes 2023 last set of champagnes tasted. Another solid line up with some superb champagnes such as Rare Rosé 2012, Moët&Chandon Grand Vintage Collection 2006 and Bollinger La Côte Aux Enfants 2012!

Pekka Nuikki / Editor of the Fine Wine Magazines and Champagne Magazine, Wine Writer (Finland)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  48 wines

Last tasting day of the Champagne Magazine's "The 100 Best Champagnes 2023" ranking. After tasting hundreds of champagnes now on the market, it is easy to say - the hard work of champagne producers to improve quality is paying off. Year by year, the quality of champagnes only improves - when comparing the first five rankings made by Champagne magazine in the years 2008-2013, to the previous five years 2018-2023, the average score of the champagnes tasted has increased by 4.2 points, which can be considered a huge increase - this is also reflected in the prices, which are increased by many champagnes 50-100% in the last 10 years.

Juha Lihtonen / The Best Scandinavian Sommelier 2003, Pro (Finland)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  17 wines

A charming flight of wines with the tasty 6 course dinner. The most impressing wines of the night were Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc 2016 and Gaja Barbaresco 2019. Once again I was very charmed by the Bass Phillip Bin 17K Pinot Noir......

Hiroshi Ishida, Sommelier (Japan)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  26 wines

Since 1959, Laurent Perrier's Grand Siècle has only been made 24 times with the aim of producing only the best. "This cuvée is made to recreate the perfect year by assembling the greatest vintages of the century" Edouard Cossy, director of Grand Siècle, explains. It always consists of three great complementary vintages that respectively reflect a dominanacy of freshness, finesse and structure.

Pekka Nuikki / Editor of the Fine Wine Magazines and Champagne Magazine, Wine Writer (Finland)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  37 wines

Ruinart is one of the oldest Champagne houses, exclusively producing champagne since 1729.
“In the name of God and the Holy Virgin shall this book be opened…” It was with these words, written by Nicolas Ruinart on 1 September 1729, that the House of Ruinart was officially established. A true entrepreneur, Nicolas Ruinart fulfilled the ambition of his uncle, the Benedictine monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, a close friend of Dom Pérignon, to make Ruinart the premier Champagne house.
A resounding success was made possible by the perceptiveness of its initiator, Dom Ruinart, to whom the Ruinart House paid tribute in 1959 by creating the historic, prestigious Dom Ruinart vintage.
This beautiful Dom Ruinart 2010 was in perfect condition. Decanted 15 minutes. Very deep, clear, almost colourless. The nose is marvellously toffeed, with citrus and pure, ripe mineral-rich flavours. Beautiful, vivid, creamy and wide mousse and a mouth-filling weight of rich fruit. Lots of dense, full, exotic flavours and a touch of honey depth.  Beautifully concentrated and powerful, yet balanced and gracious. Very charming, intense  and vigorous wine. 96 points

Essi Avellan MW , Wine Writer (Finland)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  17 wines

Bollinger La Grande Année 2014 / “An intriguing combination of a sunny year’s forward fruitiness and late September harvest’s freshness. These characters get further amplified by the high percentage of Chardonnay and important share of cooler profile Verzenay Pinot Noir in the blend. On the nose ripe peach, candied apple and vanilla blend in beautifully with delicate floral and lemony notes as well as mineral iodine whiffs. The gentle oaky note stylishly stays in the background. There is supple volume on the lacey-textured palate, but this wine plays much less on concentration and weight than what we are used to with La Grande Année. Instead its finest feature is the salivating acidity and sensation of minerality that carries the wine until the long, palate-cleansing finish. Already open and pleasurable on the nose, but the palate stands firm with mineral restraint promising longevity. Perfectly dosed at 8g/l. Note for a bottle disgorged in April 2021.”

Krug Vintage Champagne 2000 / 98 points /Elegant orange-hued colour. Lively small-sized bubbles last well in the glass. The nose is fruit-driven and elegant with spicy notes and dried fruit and brioche aromas. An intensely fruity palate with a lovely silky mouth-feel and good weight. Sublime acidity refreshes the round and rich palate. The length is long and harmonious. A long and glorious future lies ahead of this already super enjoyable vintage Krug.
