History

The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot and took the name Vve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, the widow of Eugène Laurent, combined the two family names after she decided to expand the business. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939.

During WWII, Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt ran the business while two of her sons, Maurice and Bernard, joined the French Resistance. In 1945, Bernard de Nonancourt began an exacting apprenticeship, learning every aspect of winemaking from vine to cellar, before his appointment in October 1948 as Chairman and Chief Executive. At that point, the House was employing around 20 people and shipping 80,000 bottles a year.

Fired by a passion for champagne, a respect for traditional values and, most importantly, for people, Bernard de Nonancourt inspired Laurent-Perrier with his independent spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged working relationships with the grape growers and cleverly combined innovation and tradition. He created the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, lightness and elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes which are today exported to 147 countries worldwide.

Winemaking

In the House’s view, art, elegant lines, and the beauty of objects and places are inseparable from man’s daily preoccupations with wines, their vinification, their blending, and their patient maturing during the long years of cellar ageing.

As far back as the early 1960s, the first winery made using enamelled steel was presented with as much fanfare as if it had featured noble oak casks and barrels. The new, dedicated Grand Siècle winery, is being installed in the same location.

Isolated behind two sets of glass doors, 14 tanks each with a capacity of 110 hectolitres are lined up equidistantly along the central aisle. From the arching roof overhead, the light falls onto the graceful stainless steel curves of the tanks, infinitely reflected in the shimmer of the high-tech LED lighting, making them seemingly endless.

Juha Lihtonen / The Best Scandinavian Sommelier 2003, Pro (Finland)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  12 wines

What a lovely BBQ tasting under the Finland Midnight Sun! Eight guests voted Cyril Henschke 2013 as the best from the bunch. My favorites were Muga Prado Enea GR 2006 (94p), Petrolo Galatrona 2004 (94p) and Shafer One Point Five 2016 (94p). Troplong-Mondot 2000 was passed its peak while La Landonne 2012 is nowhere near for its enjoyability yet (give it another 8 years still to open up!)

Maurizio Zanella, Pro (Italy)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  11 wines

Cristal 1971 / Moderately pale golden yellow colour. Persistent, intense and elegant nose with great depth by autolysis characters, brioche and hints of dried apricots. Very crisp palate with vivid mousse and persistent lemony flavours with dried fruits. Wonderful yeasty character adding extra structure. Long lingering mineral finish. Beautiful balance and harmony. Just pure enjoyment! 98p

The true luxury champagne is the one that captures your full attention and makes you step off the treadmill to take a meditative moment with the champagne. The richness of its taste is limitless. Each sip peels new layeres of flavours and the aftertaste feels like neverending. Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1986 and Dom Ruinart Rosé 1979 were excellent examples of luxury champagnes at their best. Dom Pérignon 2008 and Krug Grande Cuvée 167 Edition will be there one day, and I believe with even bigger trigger.

James Suckling., Wine Writer (United States)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  26 wines

Château d' Yquem 2001 / 100 points / What a pure wine, with honey, caramel, cooked apple, bon bon, and pear tart. Dried apricots and peaches develop with time in the glass. What a palate, it is very sweet and rich at the impact, but then it’s dense and opulent like a Grand Cru Burgundy, think Montrachet. Apples, honey, and pineapples with hints of mango on the palate. This is an incredible wine, a real dream, a legend. 150 grams of RS

Richard Juhlin , Wine Writer (Sweden)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  26 wines

Moet & Chandon vintage 2012 / A stylish and very promising vintage where elegance and finesse are stronger keywords than power and concentration. Chardonnay dominates the overall impression at the launch as the Pinot grapes work more as a structural moderator in the first years. Delicate polished buttery and spring floral notes dance beautifully over the tongue in a lovely youthful harmony.

Laura Monari / Wine Importer, Pro (Italy)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  8 wines

Roederer Cristal Rosé 1996 / Firm, with well-cut acidity and a fine texture, this is aromatic, delivering a skein of ground spice and graphite notes that mesh seamlessly with the flavors of black currant, black cherry, toasted almond, financier, honey and smoky mineral. Offers a long, mouthwatering finish.

Essi Avellan MW , Wine Writer (Finland)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  13 wines

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2008 / 97 points / Remarkable purity and finesse on this racey and mineral Comtes packed with energy and tension. Elegant restraint on the smoky-toasty, coolly fruity nose with lemon and flower potpourri. Linear and long, beautifully mouthwatering. Still young but enormously enjoyable.

Krug Vintage 1914 / 97 points / Absolutely outstanding how vital old "Krugs" are! Still lots of popcorn and caramel where the scent is sweeter than the taste. There are clear similarities with Pol Roger brulee scented 1914, but the style is a little tighter and slightly younger.

Eric Soulavy, Wine Collector (United States)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  25 wines
