The Story

The Gruaud Larose terroir is truly remarkable and unique. It is a single vineyard of 80 hectares with gravels from the Gironde estuary, dating from the Mindel Ist and Mindel IInd (about 700 000 years ago), and that in some places are over 18 feet deep. The soil is very poor and sandy, and therefore does not hold water. Written Notes

Mahogany colour. Complex nose with aroma reminiscent of prunes and cocoa powder, vanilla and gingerbread, hints of aromatic herbs, lovage, and marmite in the background. On the palate opulent and well-balanced with very good length, a velvety finish.

Roasted coffe nose bit some jammy, bramble notes with spiciness. Medium-bodied, vivid acidity and genlte tannins are balanced with ripe bramble fruitiness. Fine but a bit two-dimensional wine. – JL 90p (Aug 2023)
