The Story

Since 1983, Denis Durantou has been at the helm of this historic estate. He has quietly performed something of a revolution, introducing a host of innovations and bringing his wine-making philosophy to one of the greatest terroirs in Bordeaux. The 4.5 hectares used for the grand vin are situated next to the church in Pomerol on gravel and clay soils. A further 1.5 hectares of on sandy soils account for the excellent Petite Eglise.

Vintage 2014

Bordeaux Vintage 2014 - is not a great vintage like 2005, 2009 or 2010 but it will be able to secure a position as one of the very good vintages of Bordeaux.

Generally scheduled between the end of March and the beginning of April, Primeur Week in Bordeaux is always an exciting time because it allows a first glimpse of the latest vintage. The sheer number of wines available for tasting is impressive and a week almost seems short. This is why...

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is cherry red and medium. On the nose it is mature and rich. The taste is full of energy, ripe, and dry, warming, with medium tannin, with sweet tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with well-integrated structure and tired. On the palate it is layered and has mint, balsamic, cranberry, new-oak and pepper flavours. The finish is medium long and gentle. This wine is nice but not special. I paid around 200-500€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years, decant at least 30min before tasting and this is not a good invest wine. Too expensive for quality. I do not recommend it.

Very pretty nose with candied red fruit and some floral notes like violets. Nicely textured and composed on the palate with sweet fruit and good weight. 89-90p
  • 90p
Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black centre. Opulent but elegant nose with blackcurrants and blackberries, elderberries and elderberry juice, violette, discreet spicyness and hints of chocolate in the background. On the palate well structured and balanced with ripe tannins, excellent length and weight.
