Wine Spectator - James Molesworth - August 06, 2014 92 Points "Offers briar, blackberry paste, fig and anise notes, with lively, modestly grippy tannins holding the finish. Has solid dark fruit and the vintage's telltale brambly feel. Drink now through 2030."

Wine Spectator - James Molesworth - March 31, 2014

91 Points "Warm savory and tobacco leaf notes lead the way, with a cedary frame surrounding the lightly mulled plum and cherr...

Vintage 2011

The 2011 vintage is not easy to handle.

Smith Haut Lafitte not only makes great white and red wine from Bordeaux in Pessac Léognan, they are also at the cutting edge of technology. Written Notes

Tasted three times - last time in October 2015. Consistent notes. 78% Cabernet Sauvignon + 12% Merlot + 8% Cabernet Franc + 2% Petit Verdot. Lot of acidity here, tannic and rather dry. Unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in this vintage, so patience is required for this wine to soften.

Ruby. Scented, elegant, dark fruits, some faint floral notes, lovely nose already, fairly open. Detailed. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, dark berries, cassis, somewhat firm, fresh, long. Needs quite some time, wait ten years or more. 94

A record-setting amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was used in 2011 with 78%. The remainder was taken up with 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. The wine will be aged in 60% new oak and reached 13% alcohol. Deep ruby in color with floral, cocoa, cassis, tobacco, olive and hints of mocha scents make up the perfume. The wine has medium body with fresh and bright cassis and boysenberry in the round finish. 92-94 Pts
