The Story

Château Pichon Longueville de Lalande is ideally situated between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. The variety of parcels of land, due to the elements of the earth and their encepagement explains the complexity of the personality of the wines of Pichon. Since the end of the 1970's, the reputation of Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has acquired the status of a "super second" and a "nearly first", in light of the consis...

Vintage 2016

Bordeaux 2016 in review “A paradox”

by Andrew Caillard MW

The 2016 Bordeaux vintage will be remembered as one of the great years of the 21st century. I haven't been this excited about the prospects of wines this young since the remarkable 2009 and 2010 vintages. Written Notes

Pichon Lalande It takes only a single sniff and sip to know this is one the wines of the vintage. With its velvet drenched textures, silky, elegant tannins, and perfectly ripe red and black fruits, the wine offers a course in sensuality. Opulent, and rich, balanced and long, refined and deep, even at barely 3 years of age, this is stunning. But if you wait at least a decade, you will experience a wine of singular pleasure, guaranteed to evolve into one of the legendary wines of Bordeaux. Bravo to the team of Nicolas Glumineau for producing this incredible wine! 100 Pts

2016 was an extremely sophisticated wine, velvety and silky, with great acidity, fabulous complexity and great length. Astonishing quality very close to 1. Growth's one! 98+p.

Deep colour. Fresh elderberry, inky, dark cherry, cassis aromas. Pure and fresh with classic saturated cassis flavours, plentiful chalky/ grainy tannins and cedar oak/ chestnut oak complexity. Finishes long and sweet. Lovely vigour and mineral freshness, Touch al dente textures gives freshness and vinosity. Tasted at the Union des Grand Crus and at Ch Pichon Comtesse de Lalande. 96 points

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Elegant nose with very fine fruit, multi-layered character, delicate spiciness and toasting aroma, Flintstone in the background. On the palate ripe and fine tannins, very persistent character, a full-bodied wine which remains on the elegant side, opening up slowly. 96

Ruby. Scented, red berries, anise, floral, detailed, nuanced, seductive nose, blackberries, layered and deep, violets with more air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, dark berries, blueberires, some red fruits, juicy, playful, stunning length. 97-99
