The Story

L’Amateur serves as an introduction to the personality of David’s wines. It is made from 100% Chardonnay, blended from five different parcels in Trépail, and is vinified only in enameled vat with no dosage. L’Amateur has a distinctive clarity and energy that comes from a core of acidity combined with crisp citrus and apple fruit.

Vintage 2007

An unusually warm spring led to early flowering and initial optimism, which soon gave way to disappointment following one of the murkiest summers on record. Overall, 2007 was a difficult vintage saved by last-minute sunshine in late-August. Mildew and rot were the main culprits of the harvest, and the level of gluconic acid rocketed. 2007 l'Amateur Open and fresh nose on the floral side with lemon, lemon zest, green apples, Gravensteiner, citrus blossom, white flowers, minerals and just a hint of yeast. Dry and fresh with green apples, lemon skins, bit waxy apple skins, floral, white jasmin, long with floral and mineral notes. Very pure and drinkable now. Drink now-2016 88p.
