The Story

Olivier Bernard's extensive project at Domaine de Chevalier has really come to fruition. After a bold and not to mention expensive re-planting program throughout the `80s and then a decade and a half of patience for the vines to gain maturity, we can really see the benefits. 2005, 2008, 2009 and now 2010 rank amongst the very best wines produced in this sprawling commune. Powerful but graceful, true to their terroir, and just so enjoyable to d...

Wine Information

Blend: Sauvignon Blanc 75% & Sémillon 25%

Yield: 45 hl/ha

Vintage report: The unquestionably successful 2016 vintage is due to the conjunction of several important factors. A rainy period lasting from the 1st of January to the 20th of June replenished water reserves and paved the way for a large potential crop. The significant precipitation between January and late June enhanced vine growth in spring and built up essential water reserves...

Written Notes

Pale colour. Fresh flinty passion fruit lemon aromas with vanilla notes. Well concentrated sweet lemon curd, passion fruit flavours, looseknit slinky textures, attractive supple mid palate slipperiness and long fresh mineral acidity. Very stylish. Tasted at the Union des Grand Crus. 94 points

Bright yellow colour, green hue. Aromatic nose, Williams pear, lemon zest, rosé grapefruit, pineapple and hints of passionfruit. On the palate well balanced, sweet fruit, crisp acidity, excellent length. A wine with very good potential. 95

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is green-yellow and medium. On the nose it is open, youthful, charming, refined, fresh and complex. The taste is refined, robust, toasty, fresh, focused, elegant, and dry, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with concentrated, well-structured, balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has new-oak, citrus and mineral flavours. The finish is long, vibrant and lingering. This wine is impressive. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years.

Inside Information

"The Domaine de Chevalier 2016 Blanc has a somewhat delicate, nuanced bouquet this year, one that demanded gentle coaxing from the glass. It reveals delineated aromas of green apple, gooseberry and kiwi fruit, flintiness tucked just behind. The palate is well balanced and slightly Burgundy-like on the entry (strangely, not unlike a Nuits-Saint-Georges Blanc!). It opens nicely in the glass but never looses its head. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity and fine delineation, with pretty lemongrass and shaved ginger notes judiciously sprinkled over the finish. It is a Domaine de Chevalier Blanc that I would be inclined to consume in its youth rather than cellar, but hey, you never know the longevity of these wines; they can always surprise you." - Neil Martin / Wine Advocate (90-92p)
