The Story

Our Montevero is our flagship wine, a Cuvée blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It is our version of a Premier Grand Cru of Tuscany, and stands for absolute top quality and unique character. We can guarantee this by taking the utmost care and being scrupulously selective when harvesting by hand. We produce Monteverro in minimal amounts from grapes from the best plots of the steep hillside slopes that run right down to the sea. The Monteverro owes its silky structure, unmistakable complexity and the impressive richness of aroma in its taste not least to our loving care and attention to every detail.

This structured wine is layered with fruit flavors, opening with blackberry and cherry and showing blueberry and strawberry on the close. The tannins are bold, yet well-integrated. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel and French oak, the wine is aged for 24 months in 70% new, 30% second-use French oak barrels.

Wine Information

The winter season was fairly mild which advanced the bud break several days (25th of March for Merlot and Cabernet Franc, 2nd of April for Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon). We had a fairly rainy Spring during bloom which induced shattering and created naturally low yields. Then, the season was very temperate with almost no rain during summer with particularly high temperatures for July and August.

We picked the first Merlot on the 10th of September under a beautiful sun but we had to stop because of rains on the 18th. Temperatures then dropped which delayed maturity. We finally finished harvesting Merlot and began the Cabernet at the end of September and harvested the last blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon on the 23rd of October.

Intense purple colour with slightly garnet hue and violet tinges. Intense aroma reminiscent of blackberries, blackcurrant jelly, Crème de Cassis, vanilla and gingerbread spices, hints of grated chocolate, balmy spices, hints of aromatic herbs reminiscent of lovage, thyme and rosemary, macchia in perfection and hints of liquorice. The very first vintage! Intense dark black with ruby on the rim, the wine reveals a nose intense and complex of dark fruit like blackberries and black currant with touches of rosemary, dark cherry liquor, black liquorice and cigar box. On the palate, the wine shows a structured and complex mouth feel with integrated tannins, velvety blueberries and black berry jam, lingering on freshly picked black currant and fresh plum. Great potentiel and fantastic debut!

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is and looking dark and deep. On the nose it is open, youthful, generous, rich, ripe and opulent. The taste is jammy, toasty, ripe, powerful, rich, with medium tannin ., with drying tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has new-oak, blackberry, blackcurrant, smoky, violet and toasty flavours. The finish is long, spicy and extensive. This wine is beauty and too oxidised for unbiased valuation. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting.
