The Story

Tinata is an outstanding blend of Syrah and Grenache from a single block on the Monteverro Estate. The sloped hillside vineyard is nestled next to the Mediterranean forest and is home to a century old Oak tree.

This Côtes du Rhône blend pays hommage to owner Georg Weber’s mother, Tina.  Red fruit aromas, such as cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, harmoniously mingle with subtle hints of florals, herbs, and spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, and coriander, and geranium, lavender, and rose. The entrance is fresh, but finishes sweet with nuances of grenadine and a touch of cassis. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, Monteverro Tinata is aged in 40% new French oak barrels and 60% egg-shaped concrete tanks for 16 months.

Wine Information

2011 began with a very rainy winter which filled up the water reserve before the beginning of the season. The spring was warmer than average and budbreak and flowering were about a week earlier than in 2010. These conditions had a very positive impact on the quality of the vintage as it resulted in a very even grape development. Summer was a bit cooler and two rains of 25 mm (July 5 and July 27) helped the veraison and the beginning of the maturation continue without water stress.

The end of the ripening was accelerated by a hot August, and we harvested the Syrah from August 26 Q September 1. Due to a reduced yield, the Grenache matured almost immediately around September 10.

Written Notes

Deep dark ruby with touches of geranium and royal velvet on the rim, the wine reveals on the nose a strong fruit and spice combination with fresh plums, cherry, nutmeg, crushed rocks, cedar and clay lingering on grenadine, cassis liqueur and underbrush. On the palate, the wine shows a velvety entrance evolving on freshly picked elderberries, cassis and cranberries with touches of ashes and beef roast. Quite austere now, another 5 years of aging will help to open it up.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is purple, and looking bright and deep. On the nose it is intense, youthful, refined, complex and charming. The taste is fresh, focused, fragrant, toasty, and dry, with drying tannins, silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with balanced, well-structured structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has cardamom, spice, smoky and toasty flavours. The finish is medium long, flavorful, spicy and vibrant. This wine is beauty, intelligent, fine and too oxidised for unbiased valuation. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
