The Story

Tinata is an outstanding blend of Syrah and Grenache from a single block on the Monteverro Estate. The sloped hillside vineyard is nestled next to the Mediterranean forest and is home to a century old Oak tree.

This Côtes du Rhône blend pays hommage to owner Georg Weber’s mother, Tina.  Red fruit aromas, such as cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, harmoniously mingle with subtle hints of florals, herbs, and spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, and coriander, and geranium, lavender, and rose. The entrance is fresh, but finishes sweet with nuances of grenadine and a touch of cassis. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, Monteverro Tinata is aged in 40% new French oak barrels and 60% egg-shaped concrete tanks for 16 months.

Wine Information

As the year before the winter of 2009/2010 was very rainy. Spring warmth has struggled to settle, so that vegetative growth was reasonable and slower than in the past. The first half of May was rainy and could have caused a difficult flowering but fortunately the situation improved later on. Summer drought was balanced by a relatively covered sky.

September was also quite cool with average temperatures around 20° C. There was hardly any rain at the end of season, so we were completely free to choose the harvest dates according to the optimal maturity of the grapes. Syrah was harvested in early September and Grenache waited until the end of September to enter the cellar in a perfect state.

Written Notes

Very intense ruby colour with purple hue and almost black core. Excellent nose with balmy power, prunes, dried blueberries. Opulent palate with ripe tannins, velvety finish, hints of undergrowth. A wine which is slightly reminiscent of a Californian style, very well made with excellent length.

Deep dark cherry with hints of purple on the rim, the wine reveals on the nose a lovely explosion of spices like ginger, cinnamon, dry coriander, vanilla bean, balanced with fruit like grenadine and cherry with touches of flowers like geranium, lavender and rose. On the palate, the wine shows a fresh entrance evolving on some nice rose candy and graphite with touches of raspberry, cherry, fresh plum and cranberry lingering on touches of cassis. No doubt, it's a fanstastic vintage with both balance and density. Great potential!

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is purple, and looking bright and deep. On the nose it is intense, youthful, complex, refined, ripe, rich, charming and pure. The taste is harmonious, rich, perfumed, toasty, vivid, refined, with medium tannin ., with silky tannins, and average in acidity, with balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, cardamom, spice, licorice and perfumed flavours. The finish is long, gentle and smooth. This wine is sophisticated, generous and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
