The Story
The wine is a tribute to the monks of the valiant Carthusian order who arrived in what is now the Priorat in 1095 and began growing grapes. In 1835, a violent mob destroyed the work of a lifetime and plundered the Carthusian monastery. These events later culminated in the disentailment under Mendizábal. In 1996, the Torres family began planting vineyards on hillsides rich in slate stone known as llicorella.

Vintage 2023
Spain was very up and down, with more drought and high temperatures. Rainfall at veraison also caused some issues. Whilst most regions coped with less than average yields, the Cava producers across the Mediterranean coast from Catalunya down to Valencia were exposed and have reported one of the worst vintages in history. Following two years of inflation, this makes it one of the most highly affected regions in the 2024 vintage.
