Bordeaux
Bordeaux: Harvest began September 25th, again right in the grip of the mildew problem, with added problems of frost early in the season – although the weather improved for harvest. The taste of many of the wines was compromised, and yields were low, around two-thirds of average. This was the year that Alexis Millardet published his report on the Treatment of Downy Mildew and Rot, in which he demonstrated the efficacy of the Bordeaux Mixture (a combination of copper sulphate and lime) that he had developed with Ulysse Gayon.
